Ecolibrium catches up with the Melbourne-based vice president of operations for Conserve It.
Responsibilities
As vice president of operations at Conserve It, I have over 20 years of experience in the automation and controls industry. I oversee the day-to-day operations of business, with a special focus on technical sales, business development, product distribution, and support.
Speciality
I started my career in India in 2002, working on special–purpose projects with multiple government organisations in various fields of research. I have considerable experience in technical product and application development; product distribution and support; and business development in smart buildings, edge–to–cloud IoT solutions, building automation and analytics industries, focusing on climate change actions by reducing our carbon footprint to achieve net zero targets.
What are you passionate about?
Sustainability, energy efficiency and climate change.
What do you like about your job?
Buildings are responsible for almost a quarter of emissions globally. I love my job and company where we make a difference by developing solutions like intelligent machine learning chiller plant optimisation solutions and advanced analytics and fault detection and diagnostics platforms. I believe these can actively assist in optimising the energy consumption in a building.
What do you find challenging?
The biggest challenge is lack of knowledge and understanding of the need for energy efficiency and sustainable technologies among people in the industry. Another is having to justify the benefits of intelligent technology solutions like machine learning over cheaper simple BMS–type solutions.
What words do you find inspiring?
Carpe diem – seize the day.
Favourite destination?
I love travelling and exploring new countries and different cultures. My favourite holiday destination would be Florence and the Amalfi Coast in Italy. I love learning about the history of different places.
What would you most like that you don’t have?
I am lucky to have most of things I need, but, with a busy schedule, would definitely like more time to spend with my family.
“The biggest challenge is lack of knowledge and understanding of the need for energy efficiency and sustainable technologies among people in the industry.”
Future plans
Continue working and growing into executive roles within the smart buildings industry, and help make the world a greener place. I aim to help Australia achieve its at least 25 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions below 2005 levels by 2030.
What are you optimistic about?
I am optimistic about achieving my goals and targets that I set for myself.
If I wasn’t vice president of operations at Conserve It, I’d be a …
I love sports – particularly cricket and tennis – and would like to be a sports presenter, a job that would allow me to meet top sports people around the world.
