ACT professional registration

ACT professional registration

The ACT has opened applications for mechanical engineers under its Professional Engineers Registration Scheme.

The scheme, which opened in March 2024, is being phased in across different branches of engineering:

  • Phase 1, which started in March 2024, covered civil and structural engineering
  • Phase 2 – the current phase – covers mechanical engineering
  • Phase 3, planned to open later this year, will cover electrical and fire safety engineering.

From March 6, 2025, all professional engineers will be required to be registered and will be subject to compliance and enforcement activity.

To apply for registration, engineers require an assessment report from an approved assessment entity. AIRAH offers assessment of mechanical engineers working in HVAC&R building services through its APER program.

For more information about the scheme, go to planning.act.gov.au.
